Skywars: Tower Defense
A downloadable game
Skyland has been invaded by the rival machinery and you must defend it at all costs! You are tasked to build a line of defense before they invade the rest of the world. Fortify your position using turrets and adapt to the changes of the enemy's tactics. Use your resources wisely, every kill counts! Survive all waves and ensure victory at any cost!
Skyward: Tower Defense is a prototype project I've been working on during quarantine for 8 months. It was my first game project to incorporate 3D and experiment with different mechanics. The main game mechanics of the game is the modular map randomization and the turret deployment system that allows you to maintain and oversee all units individually. This game focuses on strategy and resource management, two mechanics I never worked with before.
Technically, the project had certain challenges. The map generation has plenty of bugs and may create different overlaps between the paths. A temporary fix just regenerates another map layout. Some design challenges made me rethink my approach for the game. Although the map is randomized, the principle remains the same: the player can focus their defense on one spot and ignore the rest of the map, if played right. This defeats the purpose of variety and experimentation.
I do not plan on working on this project anymore, but I am glad that this is what I accomplished during a time when we were all in lockdown. I learned how to use pointer data, affine transformations, map modularity and study other design principles for games.
Feel free to download and play!
